From Casa Cheros, getting to Izamal is a breeze—it’s just over an hour away by car, heading east out of Mérida. The drive is super easy and scenic, taking you through little towns and open countryside. You’ll basically follow the main highway most of the way, with clear signs pointing you toward Izamal as you get closer.

Once you arrive, you won’t miss it—the yellow buildings start popping up right away and lead you straight into the heart of town. It’s the perfect little road trip from the house, especially if you leave in the morning and spend the afternoon exploring.

Izamal, known as the "Yellow City" of Yucatán, is a charming town steeped in history and vibrant color. Nearly every building is painted in a rich golden yellow, creating a warm, glowing atmosphere that draws travelers from around the world.

This picturesque town is both a colonial gem and a Maya heritage site, with ancient pyramids like Kinich Kakmó rising from its heart. At its center is the stunning Convento de San Antonio de Padua, built atop a Maya pyramid in the 16th century, boasting one of the largest atriums in the Americas.
